End of Tenancy Cleaning Checklist: What Not to Forget

Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners • Feb 26, 2019
When it comes to leaving rented accommodation, it’s likely that cleaning is going to occupy a lot of your time in the lead up to moving day. The biggest factor involved in deposit deductions is end of tenancy cleaning, so to get your money back in full, it’s crucial to pay close attention to detail.

Cleaning a property from top to bottom is quite an undertaking- especially if there are multiple floors. Despite diligently going round and checking all corners and crevices for possible dust or dirt, some areas will inevitably get forgotten about.

Although you may never get your property to be completely spotless, there are certain aspects of a property that are often disregarded and if cleaned properly, can make the world of difference. Below, we’ve listen just a few things not to forget when preparing to move out of your abode.

Dust the skirting boards

Our skirting boards are often covered up by items of furniture and as a result, it’s easy for them to be neglected when doing a tidy up. Start by using the hoover to get rid of excessive amounts of dust and cobwebs and then finish by dusting them off to make them shine. Dusting in general is an extremely important part of end of tenancy cleaning and this is one of the first things a landlord will check for. With this in mind, be thorough with your dusting and be sure to tackle blind slats, mirrors and behind bathroom fixtures as well.

Clean the oven

Many of us neglect to clean our ovens throughout our tenancy and as a result, we’re left with a mammoth task when moving out. There are many effective oven cleaning products you can buy to make the job simpler, so be sure to take a trip to the supermarket before you get going. Further to this, pick your moment carefully as whilst this is not a job you want to leave to the last minute, it’s likely to get dirty again if you clean it too early on. We advise to apply the treatment 2-3 days before you move so that a second round of cleaning can be done if necessary.

Check the walls

Dark scuffs on white walls can make a property look tired and rundown and this is something your landlord will pick up on straight away. There are certain sponges you can buy that act as erasers for stains and marks on walls, so it may be an idea to go round the house and tackle some of the bigger scuffs to improve the appearance of your home. Further to this, remove all Blu Tack and use the erasers to get rid of any residue left on the walls.

Clean the windows

If your tenancy agreement stipulates that your windows must be left in the same state they were found, you may be required to give them a clean. Tackle the inside first and if you can reach the outside safely, then give them a wash to make the glass really shine.
